Each combustion cycle creates severe torque spikes that twist the crankshaft ahead of its normal rotation, then force it to rebound—a destructive cycle known as torsional vibration. When these spikes synchronize with the crankshaft's natural frequency, critical harmonic vibrations develop that can severely damage bearings and the crankshaft itself.
